How to Regain Your Sense of Smell Naturally

Castor Oil

Dr. Sandra El Hajj, a naturopathic physician, also recommends caster oils [2] for anosmia. “Caster oil has been a natural remedy for smell loss for a long time, due to its active component, ricinoleic acid. Ricinoleic acid is effective in fighting infection. It also helps reduce nasal passage inflammation or swelling caused by allergies or cold,” she says.

Castor oil is extracted from castor seeds. It is a common nasal passage treatment for restoring sense of smell by Ayurvedic [3] practitioners.

For the effective use if castor oil for anosmia:

  • Gently warm castor oil on the stove or microwave. Ensure it is warm and not hot
  • Place two drops of oil in each nostril twice daily: In the morning when you wake up and at night before you sleep.
