Should You Flip Your Mattress?

Why is bed flipping recommended?

According to studies, most dents in mattresses occur because we sleep on the same side for a long period. You can avoid dents in your bed by flipping it regularly (at least once a month).

When you sleep on one side of a bed for a long time, you may begin to notice dents on your bed. These dents may disrupt your sleep and reduce the lifespan of your bed. You expose the fresh side of your mattress anytime you flip it over. This increases the lifespan of your mattress and spreads the amount of pressure it receives evenly.

Regular flipping helps you save money because it increases the durability of your mattress [1]. It also ensures you get a night of sound sleep and prevent back pain.  While constantly sleeping on one side of a bed may lead to back pain and discomfort, more research still needs to be done to understand how it affects your sleep [2].

According to a 2009 study, using new mattresses with medium-firm designs may reduce the risk of having back pain and improve sleep quality. Experts believe that the fresh surface of an old bed may have the same benefits, especially if you don’t regularly sleep on it.
