When Should You Consult a Doctor?

Make an appointment with a doctor if you frequently find yourself struggling to go to the bathroom or haven’t had a bowel movement in a few days. To discuss with your doctor, make careful to record any additional symptoms, such as:
- Blood in your stool
- Hard or lumpy feces
- Sense that you can’t get all the poop out of your rectum
- Bloating
- Discomfort in the abdomen
- Pain in the ankles
Be prepared to discuss your diet and exercise habits with your doctor as well.
