The Impact of Gluten on Arthritis

Gluten and Arthritis

Many people believe gluten is the cause of so many health conditions such as bloating, intestinal damage, and diarrhea. There is no proof that this popular protein can cause these diseases. But there is proof that gluten can cause or increase joint pain.

A study was done recently and it was discovered that over 30 percent of Americans are trying to abstain from gluten-filled diets. However, the truth is that only people with certain medical conditions such as celiac disease, gluten sensitivity [1], or autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis [2] need to stay away from gluten.

Arthritis is caused by inflammation in the joints. It is characterized by stiffness in places such as the knee, ankle, hand, and hip. This stiffness impedes the daily activities of affected people.
