The Impact of Gluten on Arthritis

Gluten and Other Causes of Inflammation from Diet

It is important to understand that having a gluten-free diet does not mean you are having a healthy diet. Patients are advised to consume more healthy meals while on a lute-free diet. Many foods with gluten possess a compound called FODMAPs, which stands for (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols). This compound can be seen in the diary, some fruits, and vegetables, grains, and sugar. Lactose is an example of FODMAP.

You should eat healthy meals if you are on a gluten-free diet, to help reduce joint pains. According to research done in 2017, experts found out that the reduction of FODMAPs explains why some patients with irritable bowel symptoms may experience improvement in their symptoms.

Other components of grains such as amylase-trypsin inhibitors (ATIs) can also contribute to the exacerbation of arthritis.
