Bite Locations

Chiggers are primarily seen in wooded areas. They can also be found in places that contain many plants. They often stick to clothes and attack body parts in contact with a cloth or other accessories such as waistbands, sick lines, and bra lines. Chigger bites are primarily seen in these parts of the body:
- Ankle
- Groin
- Lower legs
- Behind your knees
- Waist
How Chiggers Bite
Humans can only be bitten by the young form (larvae). Chiggers mainly target moist and warm areas in the body. They use their tiny claws to hold the skin. They then stick their mouth to the skin and release saliva. The saliva [2] is filled with digestive enzymes that help decompose skin cells into a more edible form. The skin cells around your body start to harden. After a while, a tube or a cyclostome develops and serves as the path through which the insect collects body fluids. In most cases, chiggers cling to the skin for four days before losing their grip.
