Sleep inertia

Sleep inertia is a term used to describe a state of severe sleepiness that persists after you wake up and start your daily activities. According to experts, it is a transitional phase between wakefulness and sleep. In this phase, you are usually less alert and productive. Sleep inertia induces an urge to go back to your bed anytime you wake up.
According to research, sleep inertia is common in people who need to wake up suddenly in the middle of a sleep cycle due to work. For example, shift workers, and health workers that need to wake up to cover a shift are more susceptible. People who have mood disorders like depression or sleep deprivation are more prone to sleep inertia.
