Commonly used drugs for Parkinson’s disease
Levodopa
Your brain’s dopamine levels rise when you take levodopa. Parkinson’s disease is characterized by jerky movements and other symptoms that are brought on by a lack of dopamine. Levodopa is available in both long-acting and short-acting versions, and it is typically coupled with carbidopa (Rytary, Parcopa, Stalevo).
Some adverse effects are:
- vomiting
- nausea
- dizziness
- loss of appetite
- Low blood pressure
- confusion
- uncontrolled facial, arm, leg, or torso motions (dyskinesia)
