Propranolol: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects, and Warnings

Before taking this medication, there are things you shouldn’t hide from your doctor. This will help your doctor to determine if you are fit to use this drug. You should avoid using propranolol if you are allergic to it, or if you have any of the following:

  • History of asthma [4]
  • Severe heart failure
  • History of slow heartbeats, that have led to episodes of fainting.
  • A serious heart condition, such as; sick sinus syndrome
  • Diabetes
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Bronchitis, emphysema, or any other breathing disorders
  • Thyroid disease
  • Pheochromocytoma [5], tumour of the adrenal gland
  • Myasthenia gravis (weakened muscle disease)

Hemangeol shouldn’t be given to babies who weigh less than 2kg. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (this drug can be transferred from mother to child through breastmilk). Avoid taking alcohol while using this drug. Never use this drug if it has expired, using expired drugs can cause severe complications.
