At the initial stage of taking this drug, some younger people are prone to have suicidal thoughts. To prevent this from happening, be cautious about any change in your mood or symptoms. You should also talk to your doctor about any worsening symptoms.

Avoid using quetiapine if you are allergic to it otherwise, you might have severe allergic reactions. Some of the symptoms of the allergic reaction include; swelling of your tongue or throat and trouble breathing.

This drug is not approved for use in older adults with dementia-related psychosis because it may increase the risk of death. It is also not approved for use in children younger than the age of 10.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant. Usage of this drug within the last 3 months of pregnancy may cause various symptoms in the newborn. These symptoms include; feeding problems, tremor, fussiness, breathing problems and limp or stiff muscles. You should also avoid taking this drug while breastfeeding.

It is advisable to inform your doctor if you have a history of the following disease or condition;

  • An enlarged prostate
  • Seizure
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver disease
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Glaucoma [3]
  • Cataracts
  • Low WBC (White Blood Cell) count
  • High cholesterol level
  • Constipation
  • Abnormal thyroid level

This drug may also temporarily affect fertility in women.

Note that taking alcohol while on this medication can increase the risk of drowsiness.
