Dangers of Mixing Alcohol with Other Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines are also known as benzos. They have strong sedative effects. They can lead to dependence. Some popular benzodiazepines are:
- Alprazolam (Xanax)
- Chlordiazepoxide (Librium)
- Clonazepam (Klonopin)
- Diazepam (Valium)
- Lorazepam (Ativan)
The risks of combining alcohol with the benzodiazepines state above are similar to the risks of mixing alcohol with Xanax.
In general, these risks are:
- Enhanced sedation
- Mood and behavioral changes
- Memory impairment
- Physical side effects
This combination also elevates the risk of a fatal overdose. Other medicines, such as opioids and SSRIs, can also dangerously interact with benzodiazepines and alcohol.
