Strictureplasty Surgery: What You Need to Know

Procedure

You need to undergo several tests before the procedure. These tests are done to study or observe your nutritional health. Your healthcare provider will prescribe supplements or vitamins if you are malnourished. The prescribed medications will be administered before and after the surgery.

What happens before the procedure?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) is used to determine where the strictures are located. They are also used to observe the size and quantity of damaged tissues. Your healthcare provider will describe the method and steps of the procedure before it begins.

24 hours before you undergo the procedure, your doctor may prescribe a laxative to remove any unwanted substances from your bowel. In some cases, you may receive an enema before the surgery to empty your bowels.
