What is Knee Replacement Surgery?

Risks of Knee Replacement Surgery

Specific organs in the body are usually reflected or worked on during surgery. Therefore, every surgery is always associated with a different type of risk. Over 600,000 people require knee replacement surgery in the United States in a year. Risks such as infection are rare (2% cases) after a knee replacement surgery. A study was done, and it was observed that 4.5 percent of people younger than 65 have complications after a knee replacement. One percent of people contact an infection after surgery, less than 2 percent develop blood clots. Osteolysis [4] is also an infrequent complication from the surgery, and it is an irritation that occurs due to microscopic wear of the plastic in the knee implant. The irritation makes bone weak. Risks associated with this surgery are infection, clotting of blood in the leg vein or lungs, heart attack, stroke, and nerve damage.
