The tools mainly used for an abdominal plain film are made up of a big x-ray machine hanging from the ceiling and a table for you to rest on. The table contains a drawer used to put the digital recording plate or X-ray film in place.
Asides from the ones hanging from the ceiling, your doctor may use a portable x-ray machine. The machine is brought to you in an emergency room and a hospital bed. The lab technician connects a flexible arm with the X-ray tube. The technician places the arm over you and puts an x-ray film holder or image recording plate beneath you.
