How to interpret the results of your abdominal X-ray
Your doctor will recommend an abdominal film to examine any issue in your abdominal area. The procedure can reveal issues such as:
- A mass
- An injury
- A foreign object
- Accumulation of fluid
- A blockage
- Several kinds of stones in the gallbladder, ureters, or kidneys
Your doctor can also use the X-ray to determine if several organs are swollen or out of their anatomical position. You must understand that the procedure only shows the state of organs in the abdominal area. It doesn’t show all problems in the body and it can not provide accurate answers to all your questions.
After the procedure, your healthcare provider will talk to you about the condition of your organs and the implication of any problem seen in the abdominal film. In some cases, more tests may need to be done.
