How Long Does It Take to Get MRI Results?

Procedure for MRI

MRI involves a bounce of magnetic fields on the body to produce detailed images of the targeted area. It is a painless scan that takes between 20 to 90 minutes to be completed depending on the area of the body that is being scanned.

A tube-like structure is used to get an MRI. You will be instructed to lie on a flatbed that will move in and out of the tube for MRI to capture the necessary images. Because of the energy used by the MRI to generate a magnetic field, there might be noise throughout the process. For this, you will be given headphones or earplugs with music to make the process easy for you.

Your doctor might administer an intravenous (IV) contrast dye [2]. The purpose of this injection is to make the images captured to be brighter. This will also enable your doctor or radiologist to identify other possible conditions, such as cancerous tumors.
