How Long Does It Take to Get MRI Results?

Why do you need an MRI?

An MRI is used to make a diagnosis. Your doctor will result to it when he needs to see the look of some internal organs. There are several reasons why you may need to get an MRI. Some of which include:

To get a brain scan

A brain MRI may be done to diagnose or rule out certain medical conditions, and to check the effectiveness of treatments. Some health conditions that require brain scans include:

  • Headache

The process would take between 30 to 60 minutes. If an IV contrast is administered it may take longer. The result is then reviewed by both a radiologist and a doctor. A second opinion from another specialist may be needed. In the case of an emergency, you’ll receive your results as soon as possible if not it may take between 1 to 2 weeks before you see your results.

To get a knee scan

An orthopaedic may order a knee MRI to check the knee joints for tumors, injury, or arthritis damage. The procedure would take between 20 to 30 minutes. It would between 1 to 2 weeks from when you took the scan before you see your results.
