Symptoms of Early Amyloidosis

Change in Skin Color

Amyloidosis can induce a change in the skin color [5] of those who have it. This change may be better noticed around the eyes, where the skin starts to develop purple-like patches.

In addition to obvious skin color changes, you may notice a waxy thickening of your skin. You may observe that you bruise more easily on the skin of your face, chest or eyelids.

Joint Pain

A particular type of amyloidosis called dialysis-related amyloidosis [6] affects the joints and tendons. This amyloidosis develops when amyloids are deposited in these areas, causing pain and stiffness in the joints. Fluid gets in between the joints and some individuals may develop carpal tunnel syndrome. Dialysis-related amyloidosis, as the name implies, affects people who are on long-term dialysis.

Feeling of Fullness

People with amyloidosis may experience a feeling of fullness even when they’ve only eaten very little food. Sometimes this also happens when they’ve not eaten any food.
