Significant Weight Loss

People who have amyloidosis may experience sudden, unplanned weight loss. Loss of proteins from the blood due to amyloidosis can result in loss of appetite. This makes weight loss easy because the body won’t get enough supply of nutrients.
Amyloidosis may also trigger weight loss more directly by impairing the digestive system’s ability to absorb nutrients from food or even digest it. This often results in very noticeable weight loss that can be as much as 24 pounds.
Swollen Legs and Change in Urine
Amyloid build-up in the kidney can damage it. This can make proteins move from the blood into urine or it may result in less urination. The presence of proteins in the urine makes it appear foamy.
Large amounts of protein leaving the blood to the urine can make the blood vessels start to leak water. This water makes its way into the legs. Your feet, calves and ankles may swell as a result.
