Classroom Accommodations for ADHD

What Accommodations Can You Set up for Your Child?

If your child is diagnosed with ADHD, there are some accommodations you can set up for them. Some accommodations you can set up include:

  • Environmental Accommodations: The environment matters a lot. Students or children with ADHD get distracted easily. You will have to create an environment that will limit the level of distraction. Make sure they do not sit close to the windows.
  • Time Management Accommodations: Students with ADHD do not know how to properly manage their time. Normally, the brain of people with ADHD gets switched off at different intervals and it takes some time to switch on. This affects the way they manage their time. The Pomodoro method [2] is used in this situation. This method involves the use of a timer when working with people with ADHD.
  • Anxiety Accommodations: People with ADHD might suffer from other conditions like anxiety [3] or panic attacks. [4] Students with this condition should be given some time to cool off. Give them the time to leave the classroom when it is necessary or visit the counselor or when they need to.
