Lou Gehrig’s disease(ALS) Symptoms

Weakness of Muscles and Stiffness of the Joints

This is a common manifestation of ALS to have a sense of weakness of muscles and stiffness of the joints. As the number of signals from nerve cells to muscles declines, the muscle fibers are less and less utilized and loses mass over time. [2] It contributes to a sense of vulnerability and can cause imbalance and uneven gait, which increases the likelihood of falling.

Exercise does not reverse the reduction in muscle mass, because the condition worsens irreversibly. However, physical activity can help retain stability and flexibility in your joints, which helps maintain the body’s natural muscle function, posture and balance. A doctor will recommend a physical therapist who draw out a good workout regimen for you.  In order to maintain body weight and slow down the rate of muscle loss further, a dietitian can also give instructions about how to eat properly (what to eat and avoid).
