Citrus Fruits and Beets

Citrus fruits contain different types of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. Flavonoid, an antioxidant found in citrus fruits, is known to reduce inflammation, and reduce the ability of free radicals in the body to oxidize LDL cholesterol. Studies show that high levels of oxidized LDL in the blood is responsible for the progression of clogged arteries.
Beets contain high levels of nitrates, which the body converts to nitric oxide, a signaling compound that plays numerous essential roles in the body, such as improving blood vessel function and reducing inflammation. Inflammation in the blood vessels reduces the production of nitric oxide.
