Signs and Symptoms of Autism

Delayed Speech & Emotional Sensitivity

Delayed speech is a prevalent symptom of autism. Most children may struggle to build good conversations with others due to this challenge. Note that a delayed speech may not be an apparent sign of the condition, as children without autism could also experience speech delays. In children, parents may observe a slow response to their name and other verbal attempts to get their attention. Repetition of speech is also common in people with delayed speech. Young ones with delayed speech may need to go for speech therapy for help.

Sensitivity [5] to emotion is a prevalent symptom for people with Autism. This symptom is usually overlooked because these individuals can perform daily tasks but struggle to control their emotions. Note that the emotional sensitivity in autistic people is very different from neurotypical individuals. Little experiences like being cut off while riding a bike or running out of milk can cause severe irritability and problems keeping concentration for the entire day. Therapy is an effective treatment that can help manage the condition in both children and adults.
