12 Symptoms of Necrotizing Fasciitis

Severe Pain and Tissue Necrosis

Severe pain in the affected part of the body is one of the earliest and most prominent indicators of necrotizing fasciitis. It occurs as a result of the infection spreading quickly through the fascial planes under the skin. Studies show that the pain is usually more intense than the apparent wound or injury. The pain may spread to other parts of the body if immediate treatment is not administered. Contact your doctor if the pain persists or worsens with time.

The word “necrotizing” in necrotizing fasciitis means tissue death. The bacteria responsible for this condition destroys healthy soft tissues and causes discolored or blackened patches. It impedes the flow of blood to the affected area, and cuts the supply of oxygen and other nutrients. Tissue death may also occur due to the greasier nature of the condition. While there are other conditions that are characterized by tissue death, necrotizing fasciitis is different because of its aggressiveness and rapid progression.
