In most cases, doctors usually start their diagnosis by doing a physical exam, which usually involves trying to locate the source of pain and putting pressure on places in the buttocks, hips, spine, and legs. Patients may also have to perform various stretches to put a little stress on the sacroiliac joints to evaluate the degree of pain. X-rays, MRI’s and other imaging tests can help display signs of inflammation and damage within the sacroiliac joint.
