Immunotherapy

Some allergies do not respond well to medication.  In such cases, doctors may recommend immunotherapy [5]. Immunotherapy usually involves receiving a series of injections containing purified allergen extracts. The treatment is usually spaced out over a few years.

Doctors may also place a tablet beneath your tongue until it dissolves, especially when you have stubborn pollen allergies. This type of immunotherapy is sometimes called sublingual because it is administered under the tongue.
