Physical Therapy for Ankylosing Spondylitis: Does It Work?

Posture Training

The key to treating your AS symptoms is to correct your posture. This is what your physical therapist could advise:

  • Prone Lying: You’ll need a cushion or towel placed beneath your chest and your forehead as you lay face down on a stable surface to perform this. Spend one to two minutes in this position while lying down before increasing the time to 20.
  • Standing against the wall: Your butt and shoulders should be softly contacting the wall while you stand against it with your heels four inches away. Hold this position for 10 seconds while attempting to touch the wall with the back of your head. Repeat five times.

They could advise you to maintain good posture throughout all of your exercises by standing, walking, and sitting tall.
