- Redness of the skin around the fingernail
- Changes in shape, color, and texture
- Detachment
- Pus-filled blisters
- Swelling
Causes
The following are the main causes of paronychia
- Pushing down the cuticles too aggressively
- Puncturing by manicurist tools
- Biting or chewing the nail
- Picking the nails
- Excessively putting the fingers and toes in the water
- Ingrown nails
- Excessive exposure to moisture
- Irritation from chemicals
