Frontotemporal Dementia

Frontotemporal dementia [5] is a group of conditions that affect the temporal and frontal lobes of the brain – these areas of the brain are responsible for personality development, behavior and language. When it occurs, there is shrinkage of the affected side of the brain, and the symptoms developed largely depends on the side of the brain that is affected by the disease. The symptoms generally bother around personality development, behavioral dysfunctions and language impairment. A family history of the condition places a person at more risk of developing frontotemporal dementia. Treatment of frontotemporal dementia like other types of dementia is basically symptomatic, medications like antidepressants and antipsychotics help to manage the symptoms of the condition.
