What Does it Feel Like to Have a Seizure?

Focal impaired awareness seizure

With focal impaired awareness seizures, you most likely will lose consciousness. It is also referred to as a complex focal seizure. Before they occur, you may experience an aura. During the seizure, you will be unaware of what is happening. After the seizure, you might feel confused or tired.

Focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures

Focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures is a type of focal seizure that spreads to both parts of the brain. First, you might feel an aura. But as the seizure spreads you may lose consciousness.

Gelastic and dacrystic seizures

A gelastic seizure [1] causes uncontrollable laughing and a dacrystic seizure causes uncontrollable crying. These seizures are typically associated with a rare tumor-like lesion called hamartoma [2]. During this seizure, you are usually conscious and aware. You may feel anxious and out of control.
