What Is Meningitis Type B?

Symptoms of Meningitis B

There are several symptoms of meningitis B, and they usually occur within the first week after exposure. The symptoms in some cases may mimic those caused by flu.

Meningitis B progresses fast, which is why it is best for you to seek immediate medical attention. Some of these symptoms include stiff neck, high fever, confusion, severe headache and collapse.

You should also ensure to contact your doctor if you have been with anyone who has meningitis B. Symptoms of meningitis B in children, teens, and adults include fever [2], nausea [3], vomiting, severe headache, diarrhea [4], losing appetite, swollen joints, sore muscles, confusion, incoherent speech and collapse.

Additional symptoms in babies and toddlers include swelling in the fontanelle, irritability, refusing to eat, twitching, floppiness and convulsion. You should immediately seek medical attention if you notice any of these symptoms in your babies.

Meningitis rash

A common symptom in meningitis is a rash that appears all over the body. This occurs due to the bacteria that travels through the bloodstream and multiples, thereby producing a toxin that damages the organs and blood vessels, causing blood to leak from the blood vessels into the surrounding tissue, resulting in a rash. However, a rash does not always appear.
