Home Remedies for Bronchitis

Bronchitis is a respiratory condition where there is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes which transports air to and from the lungs. Symptoms of this viral infection include frequent coughing, shortness of breath, and thickened phlegm. Although there is no cure for bronchitis, it could be managed with a series of organic home remedies to improve the symptoms. Here are eight home remedies for bronchitis.

Fluids: Soups, teas, and juices

There is a clog of thickened phlegm in the chest when you suffer from bronchitis, causing you to have difficulty breathing. It is best to soften the mucus so you can unclog it by coughing it up and spitting it out. The best way to loosen phlegm is to ingest lots of fluids [1] like water, natural juices, herbal tea, and homemade soups. Twelve glasses of any of these fluids per day will help relieve you; however, it is advisable to steer clear of alcoholic or caffeinated drinks.

Natural drinks like ginger tea are loaded with antioxidants that help clear the airways and minimize [2] coughing. Ginger helps to relieve respiratory illnesses such as influenza, or the common cold by removing toxins from the respiratory tract. A study [3] conducted in 2006 showed that thyme tea is packed with anti-microbes that help reduce symptoms of bronchitis better than a doctor- prescribed medication.
