Symptoms and Risk Factors of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Workplace

Working with vibrating tools or on a production line requiring prolonged or repeated wrist flexion can lead to detrimental pressure on the median nerve or aggravate existing damage to the nerve. However, there is contradictory scientific evidence and these variables have not been identified as the contributing factors of carpal tunnel syndrome. A lot of researches have examined whether computer use is somehow related to carpal tunnel syndrome. However, there is still no conclusive proof that the disease can be caused by prolonged computer usage – although it can cause pain in the hands and wrists.

Consult a doctor when you notice recurring signs indicative of carpal tunnel syndrome, particularly if they interfere with your daily activities and affects your sleep. The disorder may lead to irreversible damage to the muscles associated with the median nerve and deterioration of the movements in the fingers, particularly the thumb if you refuse to get the appropriate treatment.
