8 Common Foods That Cause Constipation

Red Meat

Red meat contains little fiber and this makes it slow to digest. Taking a lot of red meat instead of other healthy options will affect the total daily intake of fiber and will cause constipation.

Red meat also contains a lot of fat which increases digestion time and increases the chances of having constipation. It is important to watch the extent of red meat consumption and replace it with fiber-rich foods to improve digestion and avoid constipation.

Alcohol

This beverage made the list because it is indeed a highly disregarded but very common cause of constipation. Alcohol has a strong diuretic effect. It increases fluid loss from the body through the urine resulting in dehydration.

Decreased fluid levels in the body affect the consistency of feces resulting in the production of hard and dry feces and increasing the risk of constipation. This effect may not be the same in every person. Avoid excessive alcohol intake if you suspect that it is a cause of your constipation.
