Decongestants

Decongestants can be described as OTC medications meant for treating congestion in the nose and the sinuses. When an individual has a common cold, the lining of the nose swells and blocks air passage, which may lead to a high level of discomfort.
Decongestants function by constricting blood vessels in the nose, which lowers blood flow to the swollen tissue. Once the swelling reduces, it becomes easier to breathe and prevents any form of dry cough. Note that decongestants are not advisable for children below the age of 12 due to the medication’s dangerous side effects.
Before using any medication, ensure that you speak to a licensed health professional for support.
