Treatments for Crohn’s Disease

Overview

Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is characterized by diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss. The attendant inflammation often affects the deeper layers of the intestinal walls and may become debilitating.

Almost a million [1] Americans suffer from this condition, according to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). Researchers do not know what causes it but the immune system plays a role in the disease.

There is currently no cure for Crohn’s disease. Treatments can help alleviate the symptoms and even trigger remission in some people. This article discusses available treatments for Crohn’s disease.
