Eczema vs. Rosacea: How to Tell the Difference

Rosacea

There are four subtypes of rosacea [2] and each of them have specific symptoms they identify with. It is possible to have several subtypes simultaneously.

Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea

Symptoms of this type include:

  • Redness in the middle of the face and across the nose
  • The redness could spread to the cheeks if not treated
  • Visible blood vessels

Papulopustular Rosacea

Symptoms of this type include:

  • Pus-filled blemishes that look like whitehead on the chin, cheeks, and forehead.
  • Swollen, red bumps in the same areas if the face

Ocular Rosacea

This type is peculiar to the eye, its symptoms include:

  • Stinging sensation
  • Watery, bloodshot eyes
  • Cyst or sties on the eyelids
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Broken blood vessels on the eyelids

Phymatous Rosacea

This type is rare and occurs in men. It symptoms include:

  • Thick skin on the nose
  • Bumbs
  • Redness
