Cataracts

Problems with the lens of the eyes may cause double vision to develop. The lens is located behind the pupil and helps the eyes focus light rays on the retina by altering its shape.
Double vision as a result of problems with the lens is often caused by cataracts. Cataracts are formed when lens proteins break down and mess up eye vision by clouding the lens. They usually develop as a result of aging but may also be found in children.
Diplopia caused by cataracts can be treated by surgically removing the cataracts. The procedure is safe and nearly all patients recover their sight.
