Brain Impairment

The brain is responsible for translating the visual information transmitted to it via the nerves. Double vision can arise when there is a malfunction in the way the brain interprets this information. Problems that impair perfect brain function may be caused by a variety of reasons such as brain tumor, stroke, blunt trauma or brain hemorrhage, or aneurysm.
The growth of a brain tumor behind the eye can impair eye muscle movement and damage the optic nerve. A stroke may also result in double vision when the blood supply to the blood vessels in the brain suddenly stops.
Substances that temporarily impair normal brain function such as alcohol intoxication can also result in double vision.
