Prescription Measurements for Astigmatism

The optical power of a lens, known as diopters, is used to measure astigmatism. You have a diopter of 0 if you do not have astigmatism in your eye. However, if you do, your diopter is probably larger than 0.5. For mild astigmatism, no treatment is typically required, but if your diopter value is 1.5 or greater, you could need contacts or glasses.
The cylinder and axis are the only elements of an optical prescription that are affected by astigmatism. The prescription’s cylinder component determines how severe or extensive the abnormality is. The location of an eye’s astigmatism on the cornea is identified by doctors using the axis measurements.
