Keratitis: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

Preventing keratitis

Although keratitis can affect anyone, there are things you can take to lessen your risk of developing it. This is particularly valid if you use contacts. One can:

  • Ensure your contacts are removed before going to bed.
  • Ensure you remove your contact before you go swimming
  • Only use clean hands to handle your contacts.
  • Use the appropriate cleaning solutions; never use water or diluted ones.
  • Replace your contacts frequently, following your doctor’s recommendations.

Your chance of developing keratitis can be lowered by avoiding viral infections. Before touching your eyes, make sure to fully wash your hands, especially if you suspect a virus exposure.
