Nearsightedness VS Farsightedness: How to Tell the Difference

Risk factors and severity

According to research, nearsightedness is more common in children than adults. This is because the shape of their eyes undergoes several changes as they grow.

According to the American Optometric Association, certain factors, such as diabetes [5] or visual stress can also cause nearsightedness in adults.

The processes involved in diagnosing myopia may vary. For example, your optometrist may ask you to read the “E” chart to check if you can read all the letters. If you have mild myopia, you will experienceeye sight difficulties reading the small letters on the eye chart. You may find it difficult to read the big “E” if you have severe myopia. Overusing the eyes’ focus mechanism may lead to “pseudo-” myopia.
