Broken Foot: Symptoms & Care Instructions

Possible Causes of Broken Foot

Broken feet are usually as a result of an accident. Some of the most common causes of broken foot include:

  • Falls: Tripping or falling can break bones in your feet, also landing on your feet after jumping down from just a slight height.
  • Car accident: Car accidents can cause breakage in any bone in the body. The crashing effect of a car accident can also occur on the feet and can lead to breaks that require surgery.
  • Missteps: sometimes just putting your foot down wrong can lead to a broken bone. A toe can get broken from stubbing your toes on furniture.
  • Impact from a heavy weight: Dropping a heavy object on your foot is a common cause of fracture.
  • Overuse: stress fractures are common in the weight bearing bones on your feet. These tiny cracks are usually caused overtime by repetitive force or overuse, such as running long distances. But they can also occur with normal use of a bone that’s been weakened by a condition such as osteoporosis.
