Broken Foot: Symptoms & Care Instructions

Complication from A Broken Femur

Although they are rare, complications from a broken foot can include:

  • Arthritis: Arthritis [1] can develop years after a fracture that extends into a joint. See your doctor for an assessment if your foot pain persists after a break.
  • Damage to blood vessels or nerves: Foot trauma can cause damage to nearby blood vessels and nerves, occasionally even rupturing them. If you experience any numbness or circulation issues, get help right once. A bone may decay and collapse as a result of inadequate blood flow.
  • Osteomyelitis [2], or bone infection: Your bone may be exposed to bacteria that can lead to infection if you have an open fracture, which is characterized by one end of the bone poking through the skin.
