Burning Foot Pain Causes

Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection that is found in athletes. This infection is contagious, and it’s also called tinea pedis. Aside from the foot, it can affect the hands and the toenails. A common symptom of an athlete’s foot is a burning, itching, or tingling sensation between the feet’ soles or the toes. People with this condition may experience dry skin on the sides of the soles of the feet. There may also be itchy blisters on the feet.

Diabetic Neuropathy

Uncontrolled high blood sugar can gradually damage the nerves and blood vessels. A high blood sugar lowers the transmission of signals to the nerves. When this occurs, the sensation to various body parts becomes affected, including the feet. Study shows that approximately 60% to 70% of people with diabetes have some degree of neuropathy or nerve damage, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Kidney Diseases. Please note that individuals who drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, have high blood pressure, and are obese have higher neuropathy risks. [2]
