Compression

Compression involves the use of external support through braces or bandages to keep the joints together and reduce swelling. [4] When using a bandage or anything to compress a sprained ankle, ensure that it is not too tight or too loose. If it is too tight, it may restrict blood flow or bruise the skin.
Elevation
Elevation can help reduce swelling by reducing the accumulation of fluids in the ankle. [5] It involves suspending the sprained ankle at an angle ideally above the heart. You can easily do this by resting your ankle on a pillow or an elevated surface while lying down or placing it on a table or another while sitting.
