Which Tests Do Providers Use to Diagnose Morton’s Neuroma?

In most cases, Morton’s neuroma is diagnosed based on the symptoms you experience and a physical exam. For example, a foot X-ray does not display a neuroma, but it will help rule out other conditions that can cause foot pain, such as arthritis [4] and fractures. [5]
Your doctor might use an ultrasound imaging system to see pictures of your nerve and the region around it. If they don’t get enough information from the ultrasound, they will recommend an electromyography procedure. [6] This is a procedure that measures the electrical activity of your nerves and muscles. The procedure rules out nerve conditions that have the same symptoms as Morton’s neuroma.
