Foods Rich in Vitamin C

Foods rich in vitamin C may help alleviate gout symptoms by reducing uric acid levels in the blood. Research has shown that vitamin C helps reduce serum acid levels.
One paper [13] published in 2011 found that people with high levels of uric acid who took a median dose of 500 mg of vitamin C supplements daily for 30 days experienced a reduction in uric acid levels. Another 20-year study [12] in nearly 50,000 men found that people who consumed 1,500 mg or more of vitamin C daily had a 45 percent lower risk of gout.
You can get vitamin C from several sources. The most popular are vegetables and fruits. Supplements are also good sources of vitamin C, but you should only take supplements in moderation. This is especially important if you have risk factors for kidney stones.
