Common Symptoms of Hiatal Hernia

Belching

Belching [7] (also called burping or eructation) refers to the act of expelling stomach gas through the mouth. This typically happens when the stomach expands or distends due to too much swallowed air. Belching is a reflex action to reduce this air. It’s a common occurrence that is often noisy.

Many things can make a person belch. Most of them are benign. In some cases, it can be a symptom of an underlying condition. People who have hiatal hernias may belch more than usual. This increased belching may be due to pressure of the diaphragm muscles around the stomach.
