The Similarities and Differences between IBS and IBD

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Cause

The origin or main cause of Inflammatory Bowel Disease is not known yet. There are, however, several theories that point to the role of genes and the immune system in the disease condition. People with relatives that suffer from Inflammatory Bowel Disease are more likely to develop the disease.

There are also research reports that show that in some people with IBD, the body’s immune system attacks the cells of the digestive tract leading to inflammation and in some other cases, the disease results from the persistence of inflammation in the digestive tract even after the cause of inflammation (for example; infection) has been cured.
